Raw materials: Fresh and ripe lychees (such as varieties like Feizi Xiao, Guiwei, and Nuomi Ci) are used as raw materials. The flesh of lychees is rich in sugar, vitamins, and minerals, with a sweet and juicy flavor, making it an excellent source for making lychee powder.
Manufacturing process
Pre-treatment: Fresh lychees are washed to remove the skin and seeds, while the flesh is retained (some processes retain a small amount of skin fibers, but the mainstream products mainly use pure flesh).
Drying: Freeze-drying technology (low-temperature vacuum drying to retain nutrients and flavors to the greatest extent) or hot air drying (which is less costly but may result in a small loss of volatile components) is used to remove moisture and produce dried lychees.
Grinding: The dried lychee pulp is ground into fine powder. Some products will undergo sieving treatment to ensure uniform texture and no coarse particles.
Appearance: High-quality lychee powder is light brown to brownish-yellow (slightly varying by variety and drying method), with a fine and loose texture, no obvious lumps, and good powder fluidity.
Smell and taste: It has the rich and sweet aroma characteristic of lychees, without any burnt or off-flavors. The taste is sweet and refreshing, with a relatively high sugar content (due to the high sugar content of lychees themselves), and it has a natural fruity aroma and a sweet aftertaste, with a fidelity close to that of fresh lychees.
Lychee powder retains the main nutrients of lychees. Although some vitamin C may be lost during the drying process, its core components are still relatively rich.
Carbohydrates (sugars) : They have a relatively high content, mainly consisting of glucose and fructose, which are the primary source of their sweetness and can quickly replenish energy.
Vitamins: It contains B vitamins (such as B1, B2, niacin) and vitamin C (more is retained through freeze-drying process). Vitamin C has antioxidant properties and helps enhance immunity.
Minerals: Rich in potassium (regulating heart function and electrolyte balance), calcium, magnesium, iron, etc., among which the potassium content is particularly prominent in tropical fruits.
Plant polyphenols: Containing a small amount of polyphenolic substances (such as proanthocyanidins), they have certain antioxidant activity and help eliminate free radicals.
Dietary fiber: Retains some pulp fiber, which helps promote intestinal peristalsis (the content is lower than that of high-fiber fruit powders such as pitaya powder).
Quick energy replenishment: Its high sugar content enables it to quickly provide energy to the human body, making it suitable as an energy supplement after exercise or when feeling tired.
Antioxidant and immune support: Vitamin C and polyphenols work together to reduce oxidative stress and enhance the body's immunity. In particular, freeze-dried lychee powder retains more vitamin C.
Regulating electrolyte balance: Abundant potassium helps maintain the sodium-potassium balance in the body, regulate blood pressure, and alleviate electrolyte loss after exercise (it is important to consume in moderation to avoid excessive intake).
Natural flavoring and aroma enhancement: The rich lychee flavor makes it a natural flavoring agent, which can add sweet fruity aroma to food and beverages and enhance the flavor layers.
Beverage preparation: It can be directly brewed with warm water, milk or sparkling water to make a lychee-flavored drink. It can also be added to milk tea, fruit tea or Smoothie to create a lychee-flavored drink, which has a sweet and refreshing taste without being greasy.
Baking and desserts: It is used to make lychee-flavored cakes, cookies, macarons, puddings, ice cream, etc., replacing part of the sugar while endowing the products with a natural lychee aroma. It is suitable for high-end baking scenarios.
Jam and sauce: Mix with other ingredients to make lychee jam and condiment, which can be spread on bread, paired with yogurt or used as a sauce for desserts.
Health food and meal replacement: Add a small amount to meal replacement shakes and energy bars to increase sweetness and flavor, and improve the taste of the product (due to the high sugar content, the addition ratio needs to be controlled).
Chinese pastries and fillings: Incorporate them into the fillings of Chinese pastries such as mooncakes, tangyuan, and baozi to enhance the fruity flavor of traditional pastries, catering to the demand of young consumers for "fresh flavors".
