The extract of Chinese toon (Toona sinensis) is obtained from the fresh tender leaves and buds of the plant. As a member of the Meliaceae family, Chinese toon is widely distributed across China, where its young shoots and leaves are highly regarded as a popular vegetable. The composition of Chinese toon includes a rich array of compounds such as flavonoids, alkaloids, terpenes, and anthraquinones. By extracting Chinese toon with 80% acetone and conducting relevant analyses, twelve phenolic compounds have been isolated, including gallic acid and its derivatives, tannins, and flavonoids. These components are considered to be the primary basis for the antioxidant activity exhibited by Chinese toon.

Functions:

1. Antibacterial and antiviral effects Toona sinensis Essential Oil has a significant inhibitory effect on a variety of pathogenic microorganisms, including Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, Penicillium and Camellia anthracis, etc. Its antibacterial activity mainly comes from sesquiterpenoids, and the yields and effects vary greatly among different extraction methods (such as supercritical CO₂ extraction). 2. Anti-oxidation and anti-aging Extracts of Toona sinensis (especially flavonoids and polyphenols) can effectively eliminate DPPH free radicals, inhibit lipid peroxidation, and delay cell damage caused by oxidative stress. The extract of Toona sinensis flowers has shown the effects of reducing β -amyloid protein (Aβ) deposition and enhancing the activity of antioxidant enzymes in Alzheimer's disease models, which may exert its effects through insulin-like signaling pathways and heat shock responses. 3. Anti-tumor activity The extracts of Toona sinensis leaves and seeds have inhibitory effects on various tumor cell lines (such as HepG2, THP-1, Hela, MCF-7). Among them, the half inhibitory concentrations of ethyl acetate on gastric adenocarcinoma SGC-7901 and leukemia K562 cells are 168.47 μg/mL and 102.53 μg/mL, respectively. The inhibitory rate of components such as γ -sitosterol and methyl linoleate in the petroleum ether extract of Toona sinensis seeds on tumor cells can reach more than 60%. 4. Hypoglycemia and management of diabetic complications Extracts of Toona sinensis flowers and seeds can reduce postprandial blood glucose by inhibiting the activities of α -amylase and α -glucosidase, delaying carbohydrate absorption. In the diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) model, the extract of Toona sinensis seeds can restore nerve conduction velocity, up-regulate the level of serum nerve growth factor (NGF-β), and alleviate oxidative stress injury. 5. Immune regulation and anti-inflammatory effects The crude extract of protein from Toona sinensis can enhance the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-PX) in mice and promote non-specific immune responses. Its polyphenolic components have a potential alleviating effect on chronic inflammation-related diseases, such as arthritis. 6. Nutritional supplementation and mineral enrichment The leaves of the Chinese toon are rich in minerals, including calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), iron (Fe), zinc (Zn), potassium (K), etc. The content varies with the season and the part, and can be used as a natural source of mineral supplementation. 7.
